Tibetan Refugee Center, Darjeeling
This video presents the Tibetan Refugee Center in Darjeeling, West Bengal state of India. It was established in October 1, 1959 following the dramatic escape of His Holiness Dalai Lama.
To help thousands of people who lost everything, the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Center was opened and it became a success. The production of Tibetan handicrafts is the main activity of this center and there are many Tibetans working in this place.
It is located on a hillside at Lebong in Darjeeling. In June 1960, the Centre started a small Nursery School. You can see in this video, various handicrafts produced by the Tibetans and the tourists purchasing them.
