Tarapith, Kolkata
Tarapith in Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal is situated on the bank of Dwaraka River in Birbhum. The place is famous for a temple which enshrines the idol of Goddess Tara. It is believed that Goddess Tara gave milk to Lord Shiva when he was thirsty and saved him from suffering.
On the way to the temple, there are small shops selling flowers and various offering to the goddess.The idol of Goddess, Tara holding two snakes in her hand and Lord Shiva sitting on her left lap is covered with a golden mask during the daytime and it is removed during the night.
People from all over the country visit this place. Photographic equipments are strictly prohibited inside the temple.
