Shaheed Minar, Kolkata
Shaheed Minar is a tower located in the north east facet of the Maidan, near the Esplanade- the centre of political life, in Calcutta or Kolkata. This tower was built by Sir David Ochterlony in 1948 as a memorial to the triumph of British East India Company’s in the Gurkha War or the Nepal War held in between 1814 and 1816.
Shaheed Minar literally means ‘The tower of the Martyrs' is a beautiful monument and landmark of West Bengal state.
