Vidyasagar Setu - Second Hooghly Bridge in Kolkata
Vidyasagar Setu commonly known as the Second Hooghly Bridge spans the Hooghly river near Babughat in Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal state, India. This Bridge is the longest one of its kind in India and one of the major cable stayed bridges in the world. It is the first cable stayed bridge in India and its total length is 822.96m.
Vidyasagar Setu is a modern day engineering marvel. The bridge is named after the great son of Bengal, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. He was an eminent scholar and a social reformer of 19th century Bengal.
