Dakshineswar Temple, on the banks of river Ganga at Kolkata
Dakshineswar Temple, a Navaratna (nine jewels) temple devoted to goddess Kali, is located on the bank of the holy river of Hindus, Ganga, in Kolkata or Calcutta. It is one of the renowned pilgrim places in Kolkata city in West Bengal state.
The place has witnessed another event which has brought out profound influence in the spiritual as well as social history of India. It was here Sree Ramakrishna Paramahamsa achieved his spiritual vision and met Narendranath, who later became famous as Swami Vivekananda and played a great role in taking the philosophy of India across the continents.
