The Tragedy of Shah Jehan
The final years of mighty Mughal emperor Shah Jehan was a gloomy period with the king being imprisoned by his son Aurangazeb. The emperor and his daughter Jahanara Begum were imprisoned at Musamman Burj, an octagonal structure in the Agra fort, for eight years.
Musamman Burj, an elegant octagonal structure, was built by the emperor for his consort Mumtaz Mahal. The only comfort for the king during his imprisonment was perhaps the exotic sight of Taj Mahal, the memorial he built for his wife, from Musamman Burj. It is said that the emperor breathed his last here.
Agra fort, situated in the historical city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh state, is a World Heritage site.
