Founded on 22 March, 1958 by the then Chief Minister Dr. Sampurnanand and Education Minister Pt. Kamlapati Tripathi, the name of this univeristy was "Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya", which later got changed to “Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya”. It is huge campus with lush greenery inside.
