Ruins at Sarnath, Varanasi
One of the four holy Buddhist sites, Sarnath is located around 13 kilometers from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh state of India. It was actually a site of deer park where the spiritual teacher Gautama Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment.
Sarnath was sacked by Turkish Muslims at the end of the 12th century and the site was then looted for building materials and has remained in ruins till now. Featured here are the ruins at Sarnath.
