Ramnagar Fort and Ghat, Varanasi
Located around 14 km from Varanasi, the Ramnagar Kila or Ramnagar Fort is the ancestral home of the Maharaja of Banaras. Situated on the opposite bank of river Ganga in Uttar Pradesh state of India, the fort was erected in the 18th century by Maharaja Balwant Singh.
The fort which was built in red sandstone houses a temple dedicated to Lord Ved Vyasa, the author of Hindu epic Mahabharata. It also houses a museum where travellers use to visit to come across some of the royal collection including vintage cars, royal palkies, an armory of swords and old guns, ivory work and antique clocks.
The Ramnagar Ghat, best choice for country boat ride, is also located near this fort.
