Panch Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri
The pyramidal Panch Mahal at Fatehpur Sikri is a marvellous piece of architecture with five storeys. It is modelled on the Persian badagir or wind-catcher and its purpose is to mitigate the intense summer heat. It is also known as Palace of five storeys and Badagir. The top of this extraordinary structure is decorated with beautiful square chattiri with a cupola.
Fatehpur Sikri was the political capital of Mughal Empire under Akbar. It is located near Agra, known as the City of Taj and is included in the list of Cultural Sites in UNESCO World Heritage Site.
