Malviya Bridge - a double decker bridge over the Ganges
Inaugurated in the year 1887, the Malviya Bridge (initially known as the Dufferin Bridge), is a double decker bridge built over the River Ganga at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh state of India. It carries rail track on lower deck and road on the upper deck.
One of the major bridges built over Ganga, Malviya Bridge or Rajghat Bridge also carries the Grand Trunk Road across the river. Erected by the engineers of Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway Company, the bridge was the first of its kind in the Indian sub-continent to have 7 spans of 350 ft and 9 spans of 110 ft long.
