Kaal Bhairav Temple, Varanasi
Kaal Bhairav Temple, situated in the holy city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the destroyer among the Trimurti — a concept in Hinduism. Situated in Visheswarganj, the Kaal Bhairav Temple is one of the most important shrines in Varanasi, the ancient seat of learning in India.
Enter the temple through a door guarded by Bhairava's mount, the dog, where you can find a fine courtyard, in the center of which is the main shrine of Bhairava. Devotees can get offerings to the presiding deity from the temple itself.
For centuries, the Kaal Bhairav Temple is the spiritual center in Varanasi, especially for the most severe of Shiva ascetics, the ‘Kapalis’ or "kull-Bearers’ and their later descendants, the Gorakhnathis.
