On the banks of River Betwa in Uttar Pradesh
The city of Jhansi is located on the banks of the Betwa River in Uttar Pradesh. Jhansi Rani Fort (Jhansi Fort) built by Raja Bir Singh Deo of Orchha is also on the banks of the river Betwa.
The Jhansi fort stands as a living testimony to the freedom struggle of the nation. This fort witnesses the bravery of the freedom fighter Rani Laxmi Bai.
Inside the fort one can see the temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Ganesha, Raja Gangadhar Rao Mahal (residence of the Maharaja of Jhansi), and Panch Mahal. Raja Gangadhar Rao was a good administrator and his successor Rani Laxmi Bai was one of the many who tried to rewrite India’s history during the colonial expansion period.
