Jhansi Fort, Uttar Pradesh
Jhansi Fort, a fort belonging to the seventeenth century, was built by Raja Bir Singh Deo of Orchha on the top of the rocky Bangara, hills in the city of Jhansi. The fort played a major role during the first war of Indian Independence. This fort is one of the prominent travel destinations in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
The fort is an architectural delight because of its huge size and beauty. The fort had once been the residence of Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi, who fought against the British army for freedom and attained martyrdom.
There is also a museum which has a huge collection of sculptures which provide an insight into the eventful history of the Bundelkhand dynasty. During the rule of the Peshwas, the Jhansi fort was the capital of the area.
