A closer view of Jhansi Fort , Uttar Pradesh
Jhansi fort is one of the most strategically situated forts of central India. Being built on an elevated rock it can be seen rising out of the plain and commanding the city and its surrounding. The fort was constructed by Raja Bir Singh Deo of Orchha dynasty.
The fort can be divided into three parts keeping in view the different stages of its construction- Baradari, Shankergarh and Panch Mahal. The city wall and its main gate were added later by Shiv Rao Bhau. There are also four khirkis (entrances) made in the walls. The Karak Bijli tank is within the fort. The other main structures within the fort are Baradari, Ganesh mandir, Shahar Darwaza, Grave of Gulam Gaus Khan, Panch Mahal, Shiva temple and Execution tower.
The city of Jhansi is regarded as one of those places which played a major role in the freedom struggle of India. The martyred freedom fighter Jhansi ki Rani had lived in the fort of Jhansi. The city is in the state of Uttar Pradesh and is one of the most travelled destinations in India.
