Dashashwamedh Ghat and boat ride, Varanasi
Varanasi, a holy city in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, is famed for its ghat. In a way, ghats makes the life in Varanasi more lively as these are places to take a holy dip in the sacred river Ganges and also to pursue funeral traditions of Hindus.
But what makes Dashashwamedh Ghat — the main ghat in Varanasi, so special is the ‘Agni pooja’, a daily ritual performed on the banks of river Ganga. A group of priests gather at this ghat daily evening and perform the pooja or ritual lighting various lamps which is really a beautiful sight. Legend says that Lord Brahma, the creator sacrificed ten horses during Dasa -Ashwamedha yajna performed at this ghat.
Morning boat ride on the Ganges across the ghats is one of the popular tourist attractions here.
