Life in Ghangaria village, Uttarakhand
Ghangaria, a beautiful and small hamlet is located at an altitude of 3049 metre in the state of Uttarakhand in India. Situated on the banks of river Laxman Ganga, the village is the starting point for trekking activities and also serves as a base camp for tourists visiting the Valley of Flowers National Park and Hem Kund.
Also known as Govinddham, Ghangaria village is inhabited only during the period from May to October. The rest of the year it’s covered under 8 feet of snow. During the tourist season, this single street village would come alive with tourists, street vendors, shops, markets, restaurants and hundreds of ponies and mules that are hired for transporting men and goods.
