Gangotri – In the lap of the Himalayas
As one proceeds from Harsil via Darali the valley floor gets narrower and on reaching Gangotri, the valley gets narrowed further. And the mountain peaks on the sides with their barren rocky surface during non-winter months looks formidable and imposing.
Wherever one goes in Gangotri, the towering mountains would loom over you like a massive wave of rock. The slopes of these mountains are occupied by alpine trees and other high altitude vegetation. Some of the peaks at Gangotri, on either side of the Bhageerati are known by names like Bhairav Jhamp towards the north of Gangotri Temple and Hanuman Tekri and Ganesh peaks towards the South of Gangotri Temple.
From the Gangotri valley, on a clear, cloudless day, one could spot the snowcapped peak of Sudarshan peak towards the eastern side of the valley. Gangotri, the famous Pilgrim Centre and picturesque destination is located in the State of Uttarakhand, India.
