Gangotri Temple - Chota Char Dham pilgrimage circuit
Gangotri, the origin of the River Ganges is the abode of the goddess Ganga. One of the four holy sites in the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage circuit, Gangothri is a town in Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand state of India. The river at the source is known as Bhagirathi and obtains the name Ganga (the Ganges) from Devprayag onwards where it meets the Alaknanda. It is quite an adventurous trek to reach the Gangothri temple located on the Greater Himalayan Range, at a height of around 3,100m.
