Fifteen years after Ashoka’s death, in 185 B.C., the Sumgaraja dynasty came to power in
Magadha. Pushyamitra Sumga, till them the army chief, established this dynasty and captured power by killing the Maurya king Brihadradha. In 71 B.C., the Sumgas were thrown out by the Kanvas. But the Kanva dynasty could not continue for long. The powerful Satavaahanas from the South entered the Maurya kingdom and established their empire.
