Ta devartha matra nibhasam
svarupa soonyamiva samadhi
– The state of samadhi has thus been described as the ultimate contemplation, ecstasy or enlightenment.
However, the sadhaka who successfully practices this eighth and last limb of
Ashtanga yoga experiences a state of super consciousness. It is believed that some also attain
vibhuti (supra normal powers) and siddhi (perfections) at this stage. However, the attainment of such powers must not become the sadhaka’s sole aim. It is also believed that many of the Sadhakas or Yogis of India have super natural powers. In his Yoga Sutra, Patanjali, the great sage of
India, warns sadhakas against becoming the victims of such manifestations.
The state of samadhi is the culmination of
yoga. There are two forms of samadhis - Samprajnata Samadhi and Asamprajnata Samadhi.
