Lord Rama
Rama is the eldest son of Dasharatha, king of Ayodhya. Rama’s mother is Kausalya, the eldest of the three wives of Dasharatha. The other two wives are Kaikeyi and Sumitra. Kaikeyi’s son is Bharata. Sumitra has two sons – Lakshmana and Shatrughna. Rama marries Sita, the princess of Mithila. Kaikeyi opposes the move to make Rama the crown prince. She wants her son Bharata to succeed the father and insists that Rama be sent to forest for 14 years (to make sure that he does not interfere with the administration of the country).
