Venue :  Various parts of India

Narsingh Jayanti, observed on the fourth day of the Sukla Paksh of the month of Baishakhi in the Hindu calendar, celebrates the birth of Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil. During the festival, people engage in charitable acts, observe fasts and take ritual baths.

This half-lion, half-human form of Vishnu became incarnate with the sole purpose of protecting Prince Prahlad, the son of the arrogant and oppressive King Hiranyakashyapu. The king who had engaged in strenuous and long tapas to please Brahma was granted his wish that no man could kill or defeat him. This invincibility led him to do as he pleased, even many acts that were repressive and intolerable to his subjects. The Narasimha incarnation of Vishu, broke out of a palace pillar and tore Hiranyakashyapu to pieces.
