Khimsar
Khimsar is an important tourist destination situated in the Nagaur district of the state of Rajasthan, India. Located on the highway between Jodhpur and Bikaner, Khimsar is a convenient travel point to explore the district of Nagaur. Khimsar is famous for its Fort. The Khimsar fort was originally built by prince Karamasi, though his descendents made additions and alterations to the fort, thus creating an interesting visual history of the changing architectural styles of each period. Built originally for defense purposes with strong walls and turrets, the fort was occupied by the family in the eighteenth century when a zenana was constructed for the women. Today the Khimsar fort has been converted into a hotel and ranks among the best of heritage hotels of India.
27 km away from Khimsar is Osian, well known for its Jain and Hindu temples that date back to the eighth and eleventh centuries. Nagaur which is 43 km away is famous for its cattle fair when thousands of people flock here bringing camels, bullocks and horses for sale. Camel races and other sports events add to the fun and excitement. Jodhpur the second largest city in Rajasthan is just 92 km away.
