The Kangra valley is situated the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. This pretty valley is situated in the lower Himalayas (India) that spread across 55,673 sq. km. This unique valley is said to have been in existence for 3500 years. This valley is known for its craftwork in designing shawls and miniature paintings.

The valley is wrapped by the high Dhauladhar range, which is green and rich in beauty. The magnificent headquarters of the Kangra district is Dharamshala. The inhabitants at Dharamshala are mainly Buddhists. This unique treasure of India is located at 240 kms from Chandigarh.

The attractive tourist locations here are the Fort of Kangra, the Nagarkot Fort, the Mural, the Gopalpur Zoo, the Mannuni Lake and temples like the Brajeshwari temple, the Chamunda Devi temple, the Baijnath temple and the Jawalamukdhi.

Situated at the convergence of the Majhi and Bener streams, beside the Ban Ganga torrent, the town comprises of a number of temples.

One of the temples eminent for its architectural craftsmanship is the Bajreshwari temple, dedicated to the goddess Bajreshwari. This temple is situated in mid town. It was destroyed completely by an earthquake in 1905 and was reconstructed in 1920. 

Kangra is celebrated for its ruined forts too. The Nagarkot fort stands as an example of Kangra’s glorious past. The remains of the Kangra fort are situated at a strategic high point 3 kms from the town. 

The Maharana Pratap Sagar is located 450 ms high. It is situated at a distance of 55kms from Dharamshala. It has been named in honor of Maharana Pratap of the 15th century, who fought for the freedom of Mewar.

The Pong dam across the Beas River is a highlight of this location. This dam was constructed in 1976 and its reservoir spreads across 45 thousand hectares when full.

Dharamshala, is a hill station situated 18 kms from Dhauladhar range and the Kangra town. This picturesque location is fully enfolded with snow crowned meadows and dense growths of deodar, oak and pine trees on three sides while the valley stretches in front adding charm to the sight. Dharamshala is segmented into two, namely the upper and the lower Dharamshala. The upper Dharamshala is prominent for historic spots like the Forsythe Ganj and the McLeod Ganj whereas the lower Dharamshala is the place where all the civil establishments and business centres exist.

Tourist spots at Dharamshala: 
Bhagsunath Falls, the McLeod Ganj, the Dharamkot, St. John’s Church, the Kunal Pathri, the War Memorial, the Triund and the Kerari are the highlights of this location. The Kotwali Bazaar, the Lower Bazaar and the Tibetan Bazaar are the famous shopping locations where goods like handicrafts, metal works, food items and imported goods are sold.
 
To travel to Kangra by rail, Mukerian station 30 kms away and the Pathankot station 32 kms from the town are the nearest railheads. The Gaggal airport is the nearest airhead located 40 kms from this picturesque destination.
