Gautama Buddha, who lived in India between 563 BC and 483 BC the founder of Buddhism, one of the world’s great religions originated in India. The Buddha means the ‘Enlightened one’. Buddhism preaches relief from suffering through the abnegation of desire to achieve the highest state of enlightenment known as nirvana.
