Gandhi compared with St. Francis

The 62nd birthday of Gandhi was celebrated at the Kingsley Hall by the inmates. It was for the first time that an Indian leader’s birthday is celebrated there.  They prepared a simple meal and they ate it with Gandhi, squatting with him on the floor.

A girl presented an essay, comparing Gandhi with St. Francis. Both the saint and Gandhi were born to rich parents, but they relinquished their rich attires when they realized that their people were poor.

Once when the Saint was taking part in a dinner with his disciples, he suddenly happened to think of the poor people of Italy. And he gave away his rich clothes and money to the poor, and satisfied himself with the rough clothes. Gandhi too was like this, said the girl in her essay.
