The Aguada beach stretches along the Arabian sea in south western
India in the state of
Goa. This beach belongs to Bardez district. Aguada is just 19 km away from Panjim, the capital of the state.
Its liveliness goes deep into the richness, culture, history and some of the lushest green sceneries. Tourists who are interested in architecture must visit various churches and Fort Aguada near this beach.
Fort Aguada:
The Portuguese built this fort in 16th century and used it to protect old
Goa from seaborne invaders. It stands atop the Sinquerim Hillock. The fort has a fresh water spring within it, which provided water for the ships which anchored nearby. Now part of the fort has been converted into the central jail. Plots around the fort have been developed as hotel complexes.
Tourists can see the majestic walls which are 5 m high and 1.3 m wide. The hemispherical, huge lighthouse will captivate the visitors. From the top of it, tourists can have a glimpse of the blue sea, river Mandovi etc. From the remains of the St. Augustus Monastery, a gigantic bell was salvaged and placed in this fort. Later it was shifted to the church of Our Lady of Immaculate conception in Panaji.
Reis Magos Fort:
Built in 1555, this fort overlooks the Reis Magos church nearby Aguada beach. Here tourists can see tombs of the three viceroys. It also offers a picturesque view of the river Mandovi.
Beaches:
There are several other beaches near Aguada beach. Sinquerim beach is just four km from here. Baga beach and Anjuna beach are worth visiting
Candolim Beach:
This is near Aguada beach where tourists can indulge in adventurous activities like parasailing, scuba diving, waterskiing, swimming etc. Also there are marvelous churches by this beach.
The nearest airport is located 29 km away from Panaji. Railheads are situated in Margoa and Vasco Da Gama. Aguada also has perfect road network connecting it with the rest of
Goa.
