Government Botanical Gardens in Ooty
Popularly known as Ooty Botanical Gardens, the government Botanical Gardens is one of the most visited picnic spot in Ooty, Tamilnadu. The gardens here are famous for the varieties of roses. Sprawling over an area of 10 acres, the Rose Garden inside the Botanical Gardens has terraces with pergolas, rose tunnels and bowers with rose creepers to care over 3600 varieties of roses. Considered to be the largest rose garden in India, it is situated on the slopes of the Elk Hill at Vijayanagaram in Ooty.
As Ooty, a popular hill station in South India, is an ideal location for growing a variety of roses including Miniature roses, Hybrid tea roses, Ramblers and Floribunda. For its fineness, the garden was awarded the ‘Garden of Excellence’ by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) in 2006.
