Sri Ekambareswarar Temple at Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu
Sri Ekambareswarar temple is one of the most famous Shiva temples at Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Here, Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of as Earth Linga (made out of river sand). The eleven-storey tower (gopuram) is adorned with beautiful sculptures and is one of the tallest temple towers in South India. The temple was originally built by Pallava rulers later Chola and Vijaynagarga Kings reconstructed it.
Kanchipuram known as the city of temples is one of the India’s seven sacred cities. It is one of the most sacred centres for Hindus and is also the seat of Shankaracharaya (the Indian philosopher who consolidates the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta or non dualism). This city is also famous for it’s handloom industry.
