Boating in Hogenakkal
Hogenakkal famous for its enchanting waterfalls is located on Tamilnadu - Karnataka border in south India. The waterfalls which are about 250 meters above the sea level are the part of river Kaveri (Cauvery). Hogenakkal literally means ‘smoking rock’ because when the water hits the rocks, it breaks into a smoke like mist.
Being a picturesque location, the place is a favourite spot for the film directors and they frequently choose this place as their shooting location. Boating is another attraction of this place. Usually boating is allowed during the dry-season because during other seasons the water falls will be strong enough to destroy the passing boats.
You get to see many coracle operators on the banks of the gorge. The coracles made of bamboo are about 2.24m in diameter and can take a load of eight persons at a time. The bottoms of the coracles are waterproofed by using hides and plastic coatings. Enjoy the adventurous boating when you visit Hogenakkal.
