Aliyar Dam in Tamil Nadu

Located in the foothills of Valparai in the Anamalai Hills of Western Ghats, Aliyar dam is one of the major hydel power projects in the state of Tamilnadu. Constructed during the years 1959-1969 across River Aliyar, the dam serves as a chief source for irrigation purposes.

Aliyar dam or reservoir, about 24 kms from Pollachi town by road and 65 kms from Coimbatore, is also a popular tourist destination of Coimbatore.

A park, garden, aquarium, play area and a mini Theme-Park maintained by Tamil Nadu Fisheries Corporation are the near by attractions here. Overnight stay is also possible in the forest rest house. Adventure tourists visiting here can have an overnight stay at the treetop house.
