Professor S Ramanujam - the Nataka Ramanujam (1935-2015)
Born in 1935 in the village of Nanguneri in Tamil Nadu, Prof S. Ramanujam was one of leading dramatist who tried to revive the traditional performances such as Thapuattam in Thanjavur, and reconstruct the lost temple theatre form of Kaisikapurana Natakam.
Popularly known as Nataka Ramanujam, together with his work in the sphere of the theatre education, he has worked all through as a director on the stage, with over fifty productions to his credit in Tamil and Malayalam. He has also worked actively to promote the children’s theatre in Kerala.
He has been awarded with Professor Sankara Pillai Awar and Kendra Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Indian theatre as a director.
