Directorate of Handloom and Handicrafts at Gangtok

The Directorate of Handloom and Handicrafts of Sikkim works with the aim of promoting and preserving the ethnic arts and crafts of Sikkim. It is a separate authority which encourages both training and production of ethnic arts and crafts. Another organisation, the Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation, Ltd., will promotes effective marketing of quality based products and creates more jobs and avenues for crafts persons.

Here one can see blankets, elegant handcrafted folding tables (Choktse), hand-loom woven carpets with conventional themes, hand-painted masks, shawls, traditional paintings such as Thanka, wooden dolls and many other handicrafts.
