The Directorate of Handloom and Handicrafts of Sikkim at Gangtok
Established in 1957, the Directorate of Handloom and Handicrafts of Sikkim work in the aim of promoting and preserving the ethnic arts and crafts of Sikkim. It is a unique authority which encourages both training and production of ethnic arts and crafts. DHH has been participating at various craft fairs in the state as well as at the national level. Even though it was started in Gangtok, its activities are now spread over twenty centres in Sikkim.
The Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. promotes effective marketing of quality based products and generates more jobs and avenues for crafts persons.
Here once can see blankets, elegant hand-carven folding tables (Choktse), hand-loomed carpets with conventional themes, hand-painted masques, shawls, traditional paintings such as Thanka, wooden dolls and many other handicrafts.
