Pushkar Lake in Rajasthan
Pushkar Lake or Pushkar Sarovar is a sacred lake located in the town of Pushkar in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan, a western State of India. Described in the scriptures as thirtha raj, meaning the king of all pilgrim lakes, it is closely associated with a legend of Lord Brahma. It is said that Brahma the creator of the universe along with other deities came to Pushkar Lake to take a holy dip.
Pilgrims throng in large numbers to bathe in the lake, especially around the time of Kartik Poornima (October–November) when the Pushkar Fair is held. The lake is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats (a series of steps leading to the lake).
