Patwa Haveli, Jaisalmer
A huddle of five small havelis, the Patwa Haveli (residential complex) is one of the oldest and largest havelis or private mansions built in Jaisalmer, a town in the State of Rajasthan, India. Once home to the rich merchants, the havelis in Jaisalmer exhibit intricate artistic carvings engraved on sandstone.
The doors, roofs and walls of the havelis are adorned by fine artistic works that invariably keeps visitors in awe. Considering the climate of Rajasthan, the floors and the roofs of these havelis are made out of mud and wood respectively, so that the havelis remain cool in summer and warm in winter.
