Nilgai, the blue antelope of India
Featuring in this video is Nilgai, the largest antelope in India and also in Asia. Nilgai is a widely distributed animal in India and the ones you are seeing in this video are from Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary, which is currently known as the Keoladeo National Park.
The scientific name for Nilgai is Boselaphus tragocamelus. A mature Nilgai would look similar to an ox. They are also known as blue bulls and normally they weigh around 120-140 kg.
This national park is also a major destination for ornithologists and also tourists, due to its fame as one of the finest bird sanctuaries in India. Declared a protected sanctuary in 1971, it is also a World Heritage Site.
