Ghoomar Dance, Rajasthan
The Rajasthani Ghoomar dance, one of the traditional folk dances and the most popular form of Rajasthani dance in India. A very famous community dance of women of Rajasthan, Ghoomar dance is the characteristic dance of Rajput people.
The name Ghoomar is derived from the word Ghoomna, which means twirling. The colorful voluminous long skirts known as Ghagra look stunning when they gracefully swirl while the women dance and the dancers will cover their face by the veil.
A customary dance of Rajput community, it is said that a new bride, on being welcomed to the home of her husband, is expected to dance the ghoomar as its one of the rituals of the marriage.
