Remembering Vaidyamadham
Indudharan Menon recollects his years with the late Vaidyamadham Cheriya Narayanan Namboodiri (1913-2013), one of the last icons of the famous Astavadiya tradition of Kerala Ayurveda. The Vaidyamadham family is one among the five remaining Ashtavaidya group of families in Kerala. They are the only one family belonging to the Namboodiri class, the sect of Kerala Brahmins. Legends trace the links of the Vaidyamadham family to the famous Mezhathole Agnihothri who conducted 99 soma yagas to reinstate vedic culture in this part of the country.
