Krishna sheltering Radha from the rain
This Indian miniature painting from Rajasthan, India is based on an episode narrated in the Krishna Avatara Charitra, which describes the legends connected with Lord Krishna. In this study, we see Radha taking refuge from the storm under a tree, from where Krishna leads her, sheltering her with his own blanket, to a floral bower where a sakhi (female attendant) has prepared a bed of leaves where the lovers will spend the night.
This painting in the Rajasthani style of painting executed in Mewar kalam is a brilliant example of the art of miniature painting that flourished in Mewar during the 17th and early 18th centuries under royal patronage.
