Accidental meeting of Krishna and Radha on the bank of a pool
This Rajasthani composition belongs to the Bundi School of miniature painting. It illustrates a favourite theme of the Bundi artists – the passionate and divine love of Krishna and Radha.
The scene depicted here is an unexpected meeting between the two divine lovers Radha and Krishna beside a pool of lotus and the ensuing momentary confusion. Radha, forgetting her surroundings, stands enchanted at the sight of her beloved Krishna who in his excitement, is about to eat rose petals instead of pan. This remarkable Indian painting is a fine example of the art of miniature painting that flourished in India under royal patronage.
