Akbar's circumcision celebrations
Celebrations in Kabul on the occasion of Akbar’s circumcision by Narsingh and Madhu copied by Muhammad Kashmiri “Golden-pen”.
This painting by Narsingh and Madhu Khurd depicts the rite of circumcision of Akbar and the ensuing celebrations. Akbar, who was born in the deserts of Sind in A.D. 1542, two years after his father Humayun was ousted from the throne by Sher Shah Sur, was left with his uncle Kamran Mirza in Kabul. In 1545, Humayun rejoined them. Akbar’s circumcision was performed shortly afterwards. This painting is a fine example of the art of Mughal India.
