Monkeys in search for abducted Sita, scene from Ramayana
A painting on search for the abducted Sita portrayed in a manuscript of the Kishkindhakanda of the Ramayana copied by Mahatma Hirananda.
In this painting, we see Rama giving his ring as a token to Hanuman, with Sugriva and Lakshmana beside him. They sit on a high rock, with the chief monkey counselors below. At Sugriva’s command, numerous monkeys spring in different directions to search for the abducted Sita. Indian art has a fascinating history and the Mughal contribution to the art and architecture of India is immeasurable.
