Foundation stone laying ceremony, Kallada boat race
There are several islands in Kerala blessed with nature’s bounty. Munroe Island or Munroethuruth in Kollam is one such island which is located at the confluence of Ashtamudi Lake and the Kallada River. The place is named in honour of the Resident Colonel John Munro of the former Princely State of Travancore. The island is also known for the Kallada Boat race which is one of the famous boat races of Kerala. Today Munroe Island is a popular tourism destination where one can watch coir weaving, fishing and prawns feeding.
