Pier near Kalijai Temple, Chilka

Featured in this video is the pier near Kalijai Temple in Chilka lagoon, Orissa state of India. Located on an island, this shrine is dedicated to Goddess Kali. Kali means Goddess Kali and Jai a young village girl.

It is believed that during an unexpected storm, Jai was drowned near this island. She was with her father and other men in a boat. Except Jai all others were rescued. Since then, many boatmen have heard her voice during evenings thus making her the venerated Goddess of the locality.

The temple is situated in Chilka or Chilika lagoon, a popular tourist hub and a famous bird sanctuary. The pier shown in this video is a favourite spot of travellers from where they can go for boating.
