Odisha's Chandrabhaga Lighthouse; the height of awesome
In ancient times when trading vessels from Bali, Java, Sumatra and Ceylon sailed down, they used the 13th century Sun temple of Konark as a guiding point. The lack of lighting was only corrected with the building of the Chandrabhaga lighthouse, which came into service in 1968.
Chandrabhaga, named after a river which has dried down and now no longer exists, is situated 3 kms east of the famous 13th century temple at Konark and 30 kms from Puri. A climb to the top of the lighthouse offers a bird’s eye view of the nearby beach and other areas.
