Sand art for Chariot festival at Puri
Puri’s Lord Jagannatha chariot is famous for its size and intricate carvings. Each year it attracts millions as it is pulled ceremoniously along the crowded streets during the temple festival. This year however there is an added attraction – the famous sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik has recreated the replica of the chariot on the Puri beach with sand. He has used ten tons of sand and took about five hours to create the sand replica of the Jagannatha chariot. The sculptor hopes to create an awareness of the secular character of the festival.
