Pig Farms of Mizoram
Mizoram, one of the north eastern states in India is famous for its domestic animals. These domestic animals have been a part of the life of Mizo people.
In Mizoram, the most important livestock is pig. Pig breeding farms play a major role in the livelihood of the small farmers here. Most of these farms are constructed with wood and bamboo on raised platforms (to shelter the pigs against rain and to keep away from reptiles). A majority of farmers here rear cross-bred pigs.
Farmers here take preventive vaccinations and de-worming to protect the pigs from swine fever. Most of the farmers market these pigs at the age of one year. Consumers prefer the pork with high back fat thickness.
Other livestocks in Mizoram are Mithun (local cattle), Poultry birds, Sheep and Goats. Shown in the video is a pig farm situated in Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram state.
