Traditional Khasi tribal dress
Meghalaya literally means ‘The Abode of Clouds.’ It is a northeastern state of India famous for its rich biodiversity and beautiful hills. Meghalaya is a tribal state, situated amidst the Garo, Khasi and Jaintia hills. The major tribes living here are the Garo, Khasi and Jaintia. Featuring in this video is the traditional attire of Khasi tribal women.
The Khasi traditional female dress is rather an elaborate one with several pieces of cloth, giving the body a cylindrical shape. During ceremonial occasions, they wear a crown of silver or gold on the head. The traditional Khasi male dress is called Jymphong, a longish, sleeveless coat without collar, fastened by thongs in front.
